Anti-money laundering
What this is
How we keep the site from being used to move dirty money. We are a shop, not a bank: you buy coins, you spend them, and there is no sending money to another user.
Who handles the money
Payments run through regulated payment providers. They do their own identity, anti-laundering and sanctions checks, and they hold your card or wallet details. We see the pack, the amount, and whether the payment worked.
What we may do
1. Refuse or hold a payment that looks off, and let you try again.
2. Ask you for more: an ID, a proof of address, where the money came from, or what a payment was for.
3. Freeze coins or hold an account tied to a suspected fraud, laundering or sanctions problem until it is sorted out.
4. Close an account that keeps producing the same problem.
What looks off
Unusually large or frequent payments, several failed or reversed payments, one person behind many accounts or cards, a country that does not match the account, or a name that appears on a sanctions list.
Sanctions
We do not knowingly trade with a person or a country under sanctions. The screening usually happens at the provider; when it flags something, we act on it.
Reports
If something looks suspicious we may restrict the account, keep the evidence and hand it to a payment provider or a competent authority. Sometimes we are not allowed to tell you, because that could spoil the investigation.
Records
What we need for fraud, payment and tax purposes is kept as long as the law where we are based requires, at least five years for the money side. The personal data in those records follows our Privacy policy.
Review
We look at this again when the law, the payment methods or the risks change.
